Which is best for your type?
EnChroma
The best-known brand. Works only for red-green (anomalous trichromacy) and does not restore missing cones, it increases separation between reds and greens for some users.
Pilestone
A lower-cost alternative with multiple tint options for different severities. Effect varies by individual and lighting.
ColorLite
Filters are specified per person after an online or in-clinic assessment, and can be made to prescription.
Before you buy
- Know your type first. Glasses target red-green deficiency. If your test result is blue-yellow or total colour blindness, they're unlikely to help.
- Mild beats strong. Anomalous trichromacy (mild) responds better than dichromacy (strong).
- Try before you commit. Effect is personal, insist on a real return window.
- They're not a pass. Most official colour-vision requirements (aviation, driving, some jobs) are assessed without glasses.
